Having decided to focus on the stop motion industry in Launch Pad unit and my desire to keep organically sculpting as well as some digital sculpting (the figure industry is digital sculpting for the most part), I started tailoring my research to characters that would be suitable for stop motion adaptation. Many requirements and skills of making are similar but a stop motion puppets construction involves many more types of making skills which drew me to it for an FMP: my minor projects can relate to the major. With this in mind, the character research was altered slightly. The character below is one I initially thought would be a great stop motion model but as a novice in the area of industry standard puppet making it posed very substantial challenges. In a 1:1 meeting with a tutor who specialises in this area he pointed out the challenges with an undertaking of this size and the complications:
Basically, this is the type of model that a team would collaborate and designate the responsibilities in production and It would be a challenge even if I wasn’t a novice. I then spoke to another tutor about my general direction for FMP; we agreed that as my desire was to practice/display certain aspects of a stop motion model’s production I would focus on these aspects of puppet making…
With my limited time/focus due to mitigating circumstances, the need to submit all the parts for marking and my desire to demonstrate the necessary skills needed to be an asset to a stop motion puppet production crew I looked over my previous research and at new characters that could make a suitable project subject. I narrowed it down to these three older ideas and one new one: Time Plan Learning Agreement

Figure Making? As I look to take my first steps into industry I was put off from following this passion straight out the door as there is a complete lack of UK based companies in the collectibles business. Two example companies mentioned previously that make and sell collectibles: Weta Collectibles is part of Weta Workshop based in New Zealand, while Prime 1 Studio is situated - like many other figure companies - in Japan, as the market for them is huge there. The prospect of moving to an entirely new county is not something I am ready for this early in my career. The cost and insecurity of moving abroad is practically not good. Also, putting a huge distance between my family and I at this stage of my father’s illness is not something I want to consider. Stop Motion Models
As I researched the technical areas of stop motion puppet making I focused in on the rigging and mould making as areas of interest. Sculpt-Double share a lot of their process work online which was a huge help and inside into the standard practices they use on organically sculpted character models. https://www.instagram.com/sculptdouble/ http://www.sculpt-double.co.uk/ Above Sculpt-Double and Aardman work
